What's Happening Now!

Whew! I don't think the word "busy" quite covers it, but let's just say I've been pretty busy in the studio as of late. So much is going on that it's hard to keep track of it all.

As most of you know, the Kickstarter campaign for my series EDEN wrapped up a few days ago and was a success (thanks to people like you)! With that Christmas victory I went back to the studio and ended up re-writing the script to issue #2 and I think its a much stronger story for it. I'm now in the middle of drawing it all up and I've already sent a few pages of #2 to the inker.

Meanwhile, I'm also penciling the designs for the EDEN t-shirt options that will be available via the applicable Kickstarter packages and (possibly) at future comic cons (limited supplies only). I'll be sure to post the designs for the t-shirts once they are all mocked up and ready to produce.

On another note: I was blessed to do a few marker sketches for a mentor and a friend as a Christmas gift for him. His wife (who commissioned the sketches) went above and beyond by framing them beautifully and sending me a picture of the finished product! It's such an honor to be a part of his art collection!

Additionally, my pals Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau just released their premier audio comic/audio play for The Perhapanauts!!! Always wanted to hear Big drop knowledge on you or Choopie hurl wisecracks? Then, check it out! It's currently available via Amazon, iTunes and the Audio Comics website!

Audio Comics (Germany):

for iTunes, just go to iTunes and type in "Perhapanauts" and you're set!

I also wanted to mention that a comic book cover I penciled a few years ago just saw the light of day over at USA Today. I didn't pencil the interiors to the comic (or really see the script either), but I was blessed to do all of the covers for the 4 issue Arch Enemy Entertainment mini-series (despite being a novice and not knowing what I was doing back then)! Hit the jump below to check out the article!

More news to come, but for now enjoy your NEW YEAR!!! Thanks for stopping by!

HELP Stan & Sharon Sakai!

Two days ago I was contacted by one of my comic-art mentors and friends from Garage Art Studios. By the grace of God he invited me to help out one of our own through the Cartoon Art Professional Society (CAPS). CAPS is planning to host an art auction where all of the proceeds will go to Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai. Stan's wife Sharon is currently battling a debilitating illness that has included a long hospital stay with a long recuperation. Sharon is currently at home, but needs constant medical care and medication that is not covered by their insurance.
Garage Art Studios has invited me to contribute original artwork for the auction. Below is my contribution (in addition to my prayers for them):

Usagi Yojimbo by Eric Henson--Color Brush & Markers on 11x17 Bristol

You are also able to donate to the Sakais directly via PayPal. Please do what you can to donate. I know most of us save money for a "rainy day" and we assume that rainy day will be ours, but I can definitely say that for Stan and Sharon...
...this is a very rainy day.
Let's all come together to bless the Sakais to make it through their battle and please give what is in your heart to give. To donate you can go here:
Stan Sakai, a Japanese-American, has been drawing the Usagi Yojimbocomic series for almost 30 years. Most recently, Sakai has also collaborated with Dark Horse Comics president and founder Mike Richardson and Lone Wolf and Cub creator Kazuo Koike to create the 47 Ronin comic.
Until next time, my friends...

The Spotlight!

So, I know I mentioned that the new Perhapanauts Trade Paperback (TPB) I worked on will be out in stores soon but I didn't say when! Image Comics has just solicited it for release January 29th! More info  below:

Meanwhile, I've been rehabilitating my drawing hand and warming up to continue work on issue 2 of my upcoming creator-owned series EDEN (coming 2014)! Here are a few marker sketches from that batch of character commissions, exercises and warm-ups!

I hope to have more art and even more exciting news about EDEN next time! Thanks for stopping by!

Tell your friends!

"Danger" is Coming!

Welcome back, my friends!

So much is going on, and I'd like to keep you up to speed. For starters, the release of The Perhapanauts: Danger Down Under trade is on the horizon at Image comics! For those that don't know, that series marked my first steady interior pencil-work on a major comic as well as being my first chance to work with my good friends Todd Dezago and Craig Rousseau. I got to co-pencil issues 4-5 (going back and forth with Craig) and penciled the entire storyline of Molly's Mission in issue 2. The experience was astounding and I'm trilled to see this miniseries collected in a trade! You should be too! Be prepared for LOTS of extras in this trade to include pin-ups, shorts, behind-the-scenes concept art and much, much more (like the Forward being written by yours truly)! Here's an exclusive sneak-peek of the cover-inks by the series artist and my good pal Craig Rousseau!!!

Meanwhile, some startling news from my doctor surfaced this past week: I am still not able to DRAW yet!!! Well, the incision in my hand/wrist hadn't healed exactly like they wanted so some more time is needed before the stitches come out. So production on my comic EDEN and all commission work is on hold until some time next week:

So until next time, be blessed my friends! I'll be back!

The Return!

I know it's been a while since my last post and I hope that my schedule clears up to keep you updated more and more. As some know, I recently underwent a minor surgery for my drawing hand/wrist. God willing, my hiatus from drawing will end this Monday when I am scheduled to get the stitches removed!

To keep me smiling, my pal Matt Weiringo sent me a funny pic depicting his version of my motive for surgery:

Thanks, Matt!

Meanwhile, issue #1 of EDEN (my creator owned series) is finally fully penciled and about 50% inked! We're getting closer, my friends!

Stay tuned for more!

Here We GO!

Alright, team.

It's been a while since I filled you in on the happenings around here. My work on the Perhapanauts: Danger Down Under series has officially wrapped with the final issue (#5) hitting stands on June 5th! What's next for the Haps, and will I be involved? You'll just have to wait and see! First things first though--pick up THAT ISSUE 5! You won't want to miss this finale!

On another note: Production on my new, creator-owned, full-color mini-series entitled "EDEN" is in full swing! You've heard a little bit about it on the blog (here and there), but as of now it's my main artistic focus until further notice. We're talking pages upon pages of art, guest cover artists locked in, t-shirt designs, posters being drawn and much, much more! When will you get to see any sneek-previews you ask? Well, we're being very careful about that. We don't want to spoil too much too soon. But I suppose that I can share a cropped, inked image of one of the main characters for now. Who is she? Only time will tell, my friends!

You've waited long enough for some good ol' viral marketing.

And since that little snippet is probably not enough to satisfy your artistic taste buds, I'll share a birthday gift I drew for a fan of Batman:

Hopefully, you'll be back for more previews and breaking updates!

Until next time! Be blessed!!!

Hey, Bub!

Well, well, well...

Welcome back, friends! Although I'm still hard at work finishing the final page of the Perhapanauts: Danger Down Under #5, I did have a little extra time to whip up a commission for a fan of everyone's favorite Ol' Canucklehead--Wolverine! Hope you enjoy it!

DDU# 5 Coming June 5th!

So I've been away for a while (handling various matters), but now I'm back and ready to DOMINATE some comic art boards! First up, check out the solicitation for my next release with the Perhapa-crew; DDU # 5--featuring some hard hitters like Craig Rousseau and the great Walter Simonson (its an honor to draw anything alongside them)!

And here's a Batman marker sketch that I whipped up to finish a fan's collection!

And the Batman love just kept going on and on with this drawing I did for a young lad's birthday present!--Brave and the Bold style!

More to come next time! Thanks for stopping by!
